The Democrat Presidential candidates want to increase the “taxes to the rich.” How about a voluntary tax that is available to these politicians now? A suggestion for the Democrats such as John Edwards, Mrs. Bill Clinton and her husband, Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer and their billionaire supporters Warren Buffet and George Soros : Make a voluntary contribution of a 5-10% surcharge of your pre-tax income immediately. This is available now and they can send the checks to the Federal Government pronto.

I would ask these politicians and billionaires to disclose the amounts that they contributed with a disclosure of canceled checks. In other words put your money where your “beliefs” are.

James Lord of The American Spectator suggests that they pay up to 15% of their income with a Credibility Tax:

Democrats are saying something else these days that complements perfectly the opportunity given them by the chance to pay the Credibility Tax. They have made much over the last several years with a charge that President Bush has not called the American people to sacrifice during a time of war. Not long ago several top Democrats in the House proposed that in the spirit of sacrifice high-income taxpayers should have a 12%-15% “war surtax” added to their tax bill if they favored the war on Iraq. There is no reason to limit this idea to paying for the war, and the beauty of the Credibility Tax is that one doesn’t have to wait for that irritating legislative procedure to make something like this a law. Democrats, who love the idea of adding programs to the federal government, could just start sacrificing right now — today — by ponying up an additional 12%-15% of their income for the Credibility Tax. Even better, the Treasury Department specifically says that paying these funds is a demonstration of “patriotism.” With that kind of applause coming straight from the government itself these candidates would be instantly vaccinated against any future “swiftboating” episodes that might churlishly challenge their love of country.

Where would the money go once donated by these rich patriots? Why, to the plethora of federal programs liberals love. Let’s take Hillary Clinton’s list as displayed on her website. Receipts from the Credibility Tax could be used to help provide affordable health care for all Americans, reduce the cost of energy and make us energy independent, expand access to affordable, high-quality child health care, make college more affordable, protect families from predatory lenders and help them avoid foreclosures, balance the federal budget “so we don’t pass today’s massive debts to the next generation” and much, much more. This being the same Hillary Clinton who exuberantly says she has “a million ideas” for the government to spend money, you’ll understand if I list only a few. But you get the idea.

Think of the political opportunity here for these folks. John Edwards could call a press conference in the massive new gym he’s built on his multi-million dollar North Carolina property and have a check signing ceremony before hopping his next flight to New Orleans to collect his investment from all those residents losing their homes to his favorite investment company. Hillary and Bill could have their check signing in Rep. Charlie Rangel’s Harlem, with the tax-happy chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee by their side as they signed individual Credibility Tax checks. As a matter of fact, Rangel himself could write his own Credibility Tax check, setting a superb example for his fellow tax-paying Americans. Having just proposed a half-trillion dollar tax increase over the next ten years, Rangel and his friend could get an early start on filling those Treasury coffers. With all these prominent liberals raising their own taxes 15% for this year (and why not retroactively for last year?) the fever of self-sacrifice among our liberal friends could sweep the country. After all, you can set your own tax rate when you pay the Credibility Tax. Why cut your payment as low as 15%? Why not, as most liberals favor with the capital gains tax, raise it to 30%? Or 50%? The higher the better, right?

The Democrat majority in the US House of Representatives passed a deficient energy bill. With nuclear power, clean coal technology among other things to help make us energy independent, the Democrats, in all their omniscience decided to go green. In other words, get back to the communal life the Dems enjoyed in the 60′s to lead us into the twenty-first century.

You just can’t make these things up.

One of the many initiatives introduced for the bill was a Bike ‘Commuter Benefit’ and carbon audits proposed by Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore)

Today Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore), a member of the Ways and Means Committee, announced the inclusion of three of his environmental initiatives in the Committee’s energy bill. The Ways and Means energy bill includes the closure of the Hummer Tax Loophole, a Carbon Audit of the tax code and a Bike Commuter Benefit.

“I am thrilled the Chairman has included these important environmental provisions in our energy bill,” said Congressman Blumenauer. “We are setting a high mark not only for our committee, but for the larger energy bill that will be on the House Floor in July. The provisions I worked hard to include in this bill – closing the Hummer Tax Loophole, doing a Carbon Audit of the tax code, and providing bikers with commuter benefits – are all important steps that move our country in a greener direction.

“Doing a Carbon Audit of the tax code will help us identify ways to reduce emissions and give us great opportunity for reform. It’s a leg up for decision makers who will have the information they need to be able to formulate tax policies that make sense fiscally and environmentally.

“Providing cyclists with a fringe benefit – like those that employers can give employees for parking and transit – will level the playing field for people who burn calories instead of gasoline. Not only does the benefit encourage people to save energy and stay fit, but it minimizes congestion on the roads.”

The Commuter Benefit for bikers amends section 132(f) of the IRS code to include “bicycles” in the definition of transportation covered by fringe benefits. Included in the Ways and Means energy bill is a benefit of $20/month for those employees who bike to work, which is a clean, healthy and efficient mode of transportation. The provision is based on H.R. 1498, legislation introduced by Blumenauer earlier this year.

Blumeauer’s Congressional Bike Caucus:

Every morning in Washington, Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) rides his rusty red-orange Trek bicycle to work on Capitol Hill, a reminder of one of the first things he did when he came to Congress in 1996: create a bike caucus.

With 165 members, the bipartisan Congressional Bike Caucus promotes the use of bicycles as a substitute for cars — a way to exercise, reduce fossil fuel emissions and improve travel patterns. The caucus shepherded $4 billion for trails, bike paths and pedestrian facilities in a big transportation spending bill in the last Congress.

“I have saved hundreds of hours of time. I have burned thousands and thousands of calories instead of gallons of petroleum and, after 10 years, have probably saved $50,000,” said Blumenauer, who also chairs the Congressional Trails Caucus.

The bike caucus is just one of the zany-sounding groups that lawmakers have created on Capitol Hill to advance niche interests in Congress. There’s no trick to creating a caucus — or “congressional member organization” — in the House, where it takes just a letter to the Administration Committee. Nearly 300 have registered. The Senate has far fewer groups, and they don’t register at all.

Hillary Declares health care is a priority during the next Congressional Cycle:

(Hillary) said Democrats would focus on improving the quality and affordability of health care _ a touchy matter for the former first lady, who in 1993 led her husband’s calamitous attempt to overhaul the nation’s health care system. The failure of that effort helped Republicans win control of both the Senate and House the following year.

This is one of the reasons for the 1994 “Thumping” the Democrats received. Bring it on Hillary! The Republicans will have a field day with this issue.

 The Burden of the democrats’ faltering campaigns.

The Democrat Party is scurrying for more money to run faltering campaigns.  But of course Hotline wouldn’t want you to believe the obvious. 

The Democrats are scrambling for finances that it cannot raise with Howard Dean as chairman. Do we really want such poor money managers running both houses of Congress and raising taxes?

If Charlie Rangel has his way a family earning $65,000 yearly will have an average tax increase of 58%.

While the DNC doesn’t have $10M to just toss around to another campaign committee, the DNC apparently has decided to go into debt to come up with the extra cash DSCC Chair Chuck Schumer has been pleading for from DNC Chair Howard Dean. The actual amount of the loan the DNC is taking out is not known as the committee holds out hope they can raise nearly everything they need before the election. But a line of credit has been opened.

The money is not designated for specific Senate races, however, sources tell us that two races in particular were used as leverage in negotiations between the DSCC and the DNC. Those two races: New Jersey and Virginia. Apparently the extra DNC money will help soften the financial blow the DSCC was taking by incurring the extra cost of saving Sen. Bob Menendez from the challenge of Republican Tom Kean Jr. as well also trying to target Virginia. New Jersey and Virginia sport three of the most expensive media markets in the country (NYC, Philly and DC). In addition, TN was also a factor in the DNC-DSCC discussions as the investment the DSCC is making is possibly more than they expected.

The RNC is proving to be an important cog to the Republicans’ efforts to hold the House and Senate, particularly the Senate. It’s been something that’s gotten under the skin of Schumer and DCCC Chair Rahm Emanuel. It’ll be interesting to see if Dean’s decision to go into debt will finally get Schumer and Emanuel off his back.
