George Orwell’s 1984 has always been one of my favorite books, ever since I was about 12 years old. I still, to this day, read it at least once a year. When I was a teenager it seemed so fantastical, but unfortunately today it seems to be the new reality. Liberals are always talking about civil liberties but as this story proves, yet again, it’s all lip service…

Thanks to guidelines issued by the American Academy of Pediatrics and supported by the commonwealth, doctors across Massachusetts are interrogating our kids about mom and dad’s “bad” behavior. We used to be proud parents. Now, thanks to the AAP, we’re “persons of interest.” The paranoia over parents is so strong that the AAP encourages doctors to ignore “legal barriers and deference to parental involvement” and shake the children down for all the inside information they can get. And that information doesn’t stay with the doctor, either. Debbie is a mom from Uxbridge who was in the examination room when the pediatrician asked her 5-year-old, “Does Daddy own a gun?” When the little girl said yes, the doctor began grilling her and her mom about the number and type of guns, how they are stored, etc. If the incident had ended there, it would have merely been annoying. But when a friend in law enforcement let Debbie know that her doctor had filed a report with the police about her family’s (entirely legal) gun ownership, she got mad. She also got a new doctor. In fact, the problem of anti-gun advocacy in the examining room has become so widespread that some states are considering legislation to stop it. MP3′s and a murder trial: Muslim woman arrested after discovered that she was listening to an MP3 player during a murder trial.

I thought Muslims weren’t allowed to listen to any contemporary tunes (a sin).

A female Muslim juror has been arrested in Britain after allegedly listening to an MP3 player under her hijab headscarf during a murder trial, police said Monday.

The woman in her early 20s was spotted by a fellow juror listening to music as she was meant to be helping try the case of a pensioner accused of bludgeoning his wife to death after 50 years of marriage.

She could now be charged with contempt of court and, if convicted, may be punished with an indefinite jail sentence and an unlimited fine.

Details emerged after the defendant was convicted and Judge Roger Chapple lifted a reporting restriction which prevented previous publication of the details for fear of disrupting proceedings.

The woman had repeatedly arrived late for hearings at Blackfriars Crown Court, central London, and prosecuting lawyer Peter Clarke asked for her to be dismissed.

The judge initially refused, saying it was not necessary, but a day later, he received a note from another juror suggesting that the woman may have been listening to music during the defendant’s evidence.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said that police were called by a judge hearing a case at Blackfriars “regarding the inappropriate actions of a juror.”

“A woman was arrested for contempt of court on the direction of the judge,” he added. “Following the conclusion of the trial, the judge has requested that the matter be investigated.”

But the off-spring of The Goracle proved me wrong. Al Gore’s son (Al Gore the 3rd) was picked up for speeding in a Toyota Prius…. Oh… and was inebriated too. A.G. the 3rd was allegedly drunk and in possession of other illegal substances.

Of course, this type of arrest isn’t foreign to the 3rd .

 

Al Gore III, son of the former vice president, was arrested in California early Wednesday morning for suspicion of possessing marijuana and prescription drugs.

Gore III was allegedly driving a blue Toyota Prius at speeds over 100 mph when he was pulled over around 2:15 a.m. on the San Diego freeway south of Los Angeles. Smelling marijuana, police searched the car and found less than one ounce of marijuana and prescription drugs Xanax, Valium, Vicodin and Adderall, Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Armormino said. The last pharmaceutical is a treatment for attention deficit disorder.

“He does not have a prescription for any of those drugs,” Amormino said.

Gore, 24, was released from a men’s jail in Santa Ana after posting $20,000 bail.

This is the second time he was arrested on a marijuana possession charge. Police in Montgomery County, Md., pulled over Gore in December 2003 and noticed the smell of pot. Police were also tipped off by the open windows and sunroof despite the freezing temperature.

 Marijuana the killer drug.

 Good thing that this cop is no longer fighting crime.  Stupidity is not condusive to protecting the public.

From the AP: 

A police officer will avoid criminal charges despite admitting he took marijuana from criminal suspects and, with his wife, baked it into brownies.

The police department's decision not to pursue a case against former Cpl. Edward Sanchez left a bad taste in the mouth of at least one city official, who vowed to investigate.

"If you're a cop and you're arresting people and you're confiscating the marijuana and keeping it yourself, that's bad. That's real bad," said City Councilman Doug Thomas.

Sanchez, who resigned last year from the department in this Detroit suburb, declined comment Wednesday to the Detroit Free Press. Police Cmdr. Jeff Geisinger did not return calls seeking comment.

It’s just a matter of time before the ACLU gets involved and counter sues this Fraternity.

Christian Fraternity Sues University Of Georgia

A Christian fraternity filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the University of Georgia and the Board of Regents Wednesday, claiming UGA refuses to recognize the organization because it requires all its members and officers to be Christians.

University officials have held the fraternity’s membership rules violate UGA’s non-discrimination policies for student groups.

Lawyers with the national Christian Legal Society and the Alliance Defense Fund, the same group that filed a discrimination suit against Georgia Tech in the spring, filed the suit in U.S. District Court in Athens Wednesday on behalf of Beta Upsilon Chi, which goes by the Greek letters BYX.

Six UGA students started a local chapter of BYX, which has 16 other chapters around the country, last fall. They were initially recognized as a student organization in the 2005-2006 school year, but were denied continued recognition by UGA in November.

To register as a student group, a student organization has to fill out a form stating "membership and all privileges, including voting and officer positions, must be extended to all students, without regard to age, ethnicity, gender, disability, color, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status," according to the suit. The form is part of a larger non-discrimination policy approved by the Board of Regents, the suit says.

The fraternity requires its officers and members to pledge their belief in Jesus Christ to participate.

The suit alleges that UGA has not consistently applied the nondiscrimination requirement to other student groups. It specifically cites the Baha’i Association, which the suit says requires its officers to be members of the Baha’i faith, and a Christian organization, Crossway Fellowship Christian Ministry.

The hat was a little mildewy. The green camouflage was fading, the seams fraying.

I just received this in an e-mail from a friend.  It’s probably been in circulation for some time but, it is the first time I have seen it.

It is a good analogy.

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don’t know where I am."

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, "You’re in a hot air balloon approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2346 feet above sea level. You are 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.

She rolled her eyes and said, "You must be a Republican."

"I am," replied the man. "How did you know?"

"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and I’m still lost. Frankly, you’ve not been much help to me."

The man smiled and responded, "You must be a Democrat."

"I am," replied the balloonist. "How did you know?"

"Well," said the man, "you don’t know where you are or where you’re going. You’ve risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You’re in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but somehow now, it’s my fault."
