The Democrats are living in a dangerous pre 9-11 world.  No wonder their approval rating is at an all time low (according to Gallup). Will the voters wake up in time and  vote the Dems out of their  leadership positions in Congress?

Nearly half of Americans (48%) now believe the United States and its allies are winning the War on Terror, as opposed to 20% who give the nod to the terrorists, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national survey. These figures reflect a dramatic improvement from a year ago—in July 2007, only 36% thought the U.S. and its allies were winning. An equal number thought the terrorists held the advantage.

The 28-point difference is the most favorable margin recorded by Rasmussen Reports since tracking began in January 2004 and seems to reflect a growing confidence among adults that the tide is turning in Iraq and in the war on terror in general. The previous high was established on September 6, 2004 when 52% thought the U.S. and its allies were winning but 26% thought the terrorists were winning at that time for a 26-point favorable margin.

Almost half believe we are safer now than we were before 9-11. The Democrats still live in the 9-10-01 world.

The Taliban in Afghanistan have claimed murdering 2 Germans for Germany’s refusal to withdraw troops.

A purported Taliban spokesman said the hard-line militia killed two German hostages on Saturday because Germany didn’t announce a troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The Afghan government, however, said one of the Germans died of a heart attack and that the second was still alive.

South Korea’s government, meanwhile, attempted to win the release of at least 18 Korean Christians, including 15 women, kidnapped in the same region on Thursday.

Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, who claims to be a Taliban spokesman, said fighters had fatally shot the Germans, who were kidnapped on Wednesday along with five Afghan colleagues in the southern province of Wardak while working on a dam project.

“The German and Afghan governments didn’t meet our conditions, they didn’t pull out their troops,” Ahmadi told The Associated Press by telephone from an undisclosed location.

Ahmadi offered no proof of the killings and said the Taliban would give further information about the two bodies later.

al Qaeda tape contains old clip of bin Laden

A leading French terrorism expert cautioned on Thursday against taking the latest Osama bin Laden video at face value, saying it was largely an edited collection of old footage and sound tracks that have already been aired.

On Wednesday, the Al Jazeera Arabic television station broadcast a tape of bin Laden and his right hand man Ayman al-Zawahri, in which the al Qaeda leader urges supporters to bury Americans in “the graveyard of Iraq.”

But Roland Jacquard, head of the Paris-based International Observatory on Terrorism, told French radio that the tape was above all a show of defiance on the eve of the September 11 anniversary by al Qaeda number two al-Zawahri.

“We have to be extremely prudent about this message,” Jacquard told Europe 1 radio.

“Given that Osama bin Laden has not appeared on a video cassette for many months it’s pretty incomprehensible that in the only video cassette where he appears beside Ayman al-Zawahri he doesn’t speak, he just allows the latter to speak.

“The voice of bin Laden we hear in the background, thanking the World Trade Center plane hijackers, is exactly the same message that was broadcast in a video cassette by Al Jazeera on 26 December 2001,” he said.

Al-Zawahri’s message was also old and had been broadcast by Dubai’s Al Arabiya network on August 3, Jacquard said.

“Above all (this is) a message from the organisation’s number two, al-Zawahri, who wants to remind the world and the United States on September 11 that he’s still around,” he added.

Jacquard said some of the bin Laden pictures may even date from before the December 2001 offensive in Afghanistan’s Tora Bora mountains, where U.S. warplanes and their Afghan allies tried to wipe out bin Laden and his associates.

Nevertheless, the latest al-Zawahri soundtrack was recent, as he refers to recent events. But the pictures were old, the French expert said.
