While I respect John McCain’s military service, in McCain’s day ALL men HAD to go into the military. Many guys went ahead and enlisted, because they knew they were going to get drafted anyway. Enlisting was a way to have some say about what branch of the service they could get into.
But would McCain have enlisted if there was no draft? No one knows that.
McCain’s being in the military was a legal requirement of his generation, and to suggest he would have enlisted without a draft is only a guess.
Considering how wild and selfish McCain was in his youth (his own words), I doubt he would have enlisted without a draft.
your facts are wrong. mccain wanted to be a naval aviator all his life and followed a family tradition in going to the naval academy which required a five year committment. the draft was used on a very limited basisfrom the time mccain turned 18- in 1954- until he was well under way with his military career. do research…especially on this subject, the info is readily available.
Of course Obama, who also admits to being “wild and selfish” (including drugs), who also hung out with radically leftist that hated the military and influenced Obama to go forth in his public service for “change”, Obama here is the true military hero because he “considered joining the Military”… But he didn’t because we were not actively at war… This from the man who would prematurely withdraw us from the current conflict in Iraq… A war that was voted for by most Democrats… Can we believe anything this man says?
Selective service is something that all males have to get into at some point and now they have to if they want to obtain scholarships. To actually enroll in the ARMY is a voluntary choice. Who does Obama think he is fooling?
