Barack Obama’s half brother claims that his brother, Democrat Presidential candidate Barack Obama, was raised as a Muslim. Contrary to the Obama campaign’s assertions otherwise. Malik says he will make a good president despite his Muslim upbringing.

Apparently the Obamas of Kenya have been reading those scurrilous emails to which Barack likes to refer, because they have no doubt — contrary to the claims of the Obama campaign, that the presidential candidate was raised a Moslem. They take that as a given.
As the Jerusalem Post reports, “Barack Obama’s half brother Malik said Thursday that if elected his brother will be a good president for the Jewish people, despite his Muslim background. In an interview with Army Radio he expressed a special salutation from the Obamas of Kenya.”
The Obama brothers’ father, a senior economist for the Kenyan government who studied at Harvard University, died in car crash in 1982. He left six sons and a daughter. All of his children – except Malik — live in Britain or the United States. Malik and Barack met in 1985.
In a remarkable denial issued last November that still stands on the official campaign website, Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs issued a statement explaining that “Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised as a Muslim, and is a committed Christian.”
Apparently Malik Obama, himself a Muslim, had not read the press release.
Melanie Phillips is the most recent commentator to draw attention to the massive body of evidence that leaves no doubt that Barak Hussein Obama was born a Muslim (Islam is patrilineal) and raised a Muslim (so registered in school, acknowledging attending Islamic classes, reported accompanying his step-father to the mosque, and able to recite the Koran in the original Arabic).
If this is true what else is Obama hiding?

“Raised as a muslim” is past tense. “Claiming to be a Christian” is present tense.
Malik said that not all his family is Muslim…Barak is a Christian…
That doesn’t mean he wasn’t raised as a Muslim…since Obama admits that he didn’t become a Christian until sometime after he started atteding Trinty.

Obama became a Christian sometime after attending Trinity. This fact says that Obama joined Trinity out of political convenience rather than true convictions. Obama in previous interviews always skirts around his religious beliefs leading to the rumors of supporting Islam. His church and Obama have ties to the Nation of Islam. I was Christened Methodist, but became Mormon and then Baptist. My son is a baptised Catholic, but has never attended any Mass and only went to church when he was little. None of that teaching remains in him – he doesn’t remember any of it. I don’t remember one single thing about Methodism. I think this is complete paranoia and extremist thinking that something in his childhood will influence him as an adult who was capable of choosing to be a Christian. Personally, I think people are using this as a way to be more politically correct in rejecting him rather than admitting they won’t vote for him because he’s Black. I don’t care if his middle name is Hussein – he didn’t choose that name. It was given to him. Had he chosen that name as an adult, I would have my concerns. THE WHOLE POINT IS THAT OBAMA DENIED EVER BEING A MUSLIM -i.e. he said he was not born a muslim and not raised a muslim. This is false. If the law is applied to a black muslem equally as to everyone else, Hussein O is most likely not allowed to run for POTUS due to not being a legal natural born citizen. Makes sense that he ran back to congress to take up the non-issue of McCain being born in Panama. No way momma Obama had lived ‘5′ years in the U.S. after the age of 16 before Hussein was born. So do we enforce the law equally or ignore the law because he claims to be a ‘black’ man.

Clarification about Obama’s Status as a Muslim:
According to Islam, a child born to a Muslim father is a Muslim. Therefore, Muslims consider Obama to be a Muslim. However, thay may also very well consider him to be an Apostate. An Apostate is a Muslim who leaves Islam and converts to another religion. The punishment for Apostacy under Islamic law is severe – death by beheading. Natural born Muslims (such as Obama) who leave Islam (fitrah)are subject to immediate execution; those who convert to Islam (millah) and then leave the faith for another religion are given three days to repent, and if unrepentent, then are subject to execution. Thus the natural born Muslim Apostate commits the greater offense. More moderate interpretations of Islamic law do not call for the death of the Apostate, but simply hold that the Apostate will be held accountable for his actions at the Day of Judgement.
From this article, I could only gather that he has a Muslim background. Obama hardly met his father at all, and his siblings were scattered around the world. So any Islamic influence would be then debatable.
He also had a mother who would have been influential in his religious bearing. We should as well find what her religious preference are.

If being born to a Muslim father makes one Muslim, it was purely a cultural connection in the Obama household — many reports — notably TIME’s feature Obama’s mother (see quote below) — make note of the fact that the household was not religious. He spent two years in a Catholic school in Indinesia (1st and 2nd grades) and two years in an Indonesian public school (3rd and 4th). After that, he returned to Hawaii for the remainder of his primary and secondary education and went to private, secular schools. How any of this makes him a Muslim eludes me. How a half-brother whom he never even met until he was well into adulthood would have ANY idea how Obama was raised is also problematic. Since this is the only sibling to remain in Kenya, it is possible that he is giving his own paternalistic spin to things. There certainly could be some resentment of the white Ann among the Kenyan wives and children.
I think the point is that Obama never espoused the Muslim religion, that he was generally skeptical and non-religious until he began working with Chicago churches as a community organizer, at which point, he was baptized in the Christian faith. What more is important?

The argument wasn’t that he was born Muslim, (even this is debatable, from a view of a Christian. A person must hold their belief by their own conviction) but it is was if he was raised as one. Obama’s mother was a person with high religious tolerances, who however stayed with her own form of religion. She was the one who took care of Obama, not his father, so Obama was much more prone to her influences.
To some, the ambiguousness of Obama’s life is the equivalent of a lie. I do admit, he has a complex character, reflexive of his childhood experiences. But in America, we are proud to have this model of justice, innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Let reason prevail.

Although Bannie, you are right that Obama has a Muslim step-father, there is still reason to doubt that Obama was raised Muslim. You also must count Obama’s mother as a factor.
He spent the first two years of his education in a Catholic school. For the rest of his education in Indonesia, he attended a largely Muslim school, tolerant of other religions.
