I feel that the polls are being boosted for certain candidates by not true registered voters or by activists of the opposing party, especially the democrats. Ron Paul does not represent the majority of “CONSERVATIVE” voters, rep or dem.

I think the media has made Iowa and New Hampshire much too important. Neither state is really repressentative of modern day America. Moreover, too few of the populace actually participates skewing results. And in the end its all about who gets the money. We need to find a better way.

Thank God Huckabee got the “Iowa Kiss of Death”. Remember when Bob Dole won Iowa by just of 20% ahead of Ronald Reagan. This caused all the “spotlights of scrutiny” to shine on Bob Dole. When conservatives saw Dole in the light they realized he was not at all what he claimed to be. Reagan went on to win the Presidency with a 48 state landslide.
Check the history in Iowa. Few, very few, that win the Iowa Republican caucus by a hefty margin go on to win the Presidency (I think it’s a Hoover thing). They instead have a traditional nose dive to oblivion.

Romney’s loss last night is the second place, “Iowa Kiss of Death”. It usually the candidate that is expected to win – come in at 1st place. It is almost as bad as being the “also ran”.
Romney has spent over $100,000,000.00 to date on his campaign. A very large portion out of his own pocket. In the past month Romney spent just over $10,000,000.00 in Iowa. And came in second. Conservatives say, “If he can’t win it with all the money he has spent he either is unable to get his message out or his message is not conducive to ‘Conservatism’”.

If you look at the final numbers, rather than the percentage, John McCain came in fourth behind Fred Thompson at 3rd place. McCain can win in the more liberal Northeast and Arizona. Rudy is all Neoconned up with the old liberal New York intellectual crowd starting with Norman Podhoretz (who I have always admired for “Breaking Ranks”) and Heritage Foundation folks. These are indeed good people but I think they fear their influence would be modified by a president with deep conservative principles.
Huck reminds me too much of the Peanut Brigade of ‘76. Mitt is enthusiastic about his new found sobriety but he hasn’t been “on the wagon” long enough. Could relapse, you know. McCain is a gift to this nation but but he reminds me of Feingold and Teddy. And Rudy reminds me of, well, of Rudy.
Fred has conservative gravitas that will take social radicals, tax and spend redistributionists, and “blame America first” cowards to the woodshed in November.
Huckabee has shown himself to be really manipulative and dishonest with his 1) ridiculous statement (posed as a question) with the reporter about the beliefs of Mormans, 2) his “I won’t go negative” claim in regard to ads,… but only in Iowa?? SC, that’s a different story according to his own campaign (Ed Rollins), so it wasn’t a decision based on principals, it was a decision to appeal to Iowa voters, specifically… and 3) his negative ad against Romney that he ‘doesn’t approve of’ and it’s ‘not his style, BUT, he’ll show it to a room full of the media and get the ad run over and over again, for FREE! Brilliant, dishonest and pathetic. (I, at first, liked and was leaning toward supporting Huckabee – that’s embarassing)
I’m a Christian, but Huckabee’s in for some huge disappointment now that this is moving on to other states that aren’t going to be nearly as supportive of his claim of some type of superiority because of his religion. Let’s keep religion OUT of this. We’re not electing a pastor! He’s far too liberal and forgiving (1,033 pardons as Gov., including pardoning 12 convicted murderers! That’s UNACCEPTABLE!) and he’s not strong enough to be the leader of this great Nation.

Difficult to participate in your poll as you didn’t list all the democratic candidates. I would vote for Dennis Kucinich without a moments hesitation. It comes closest to true democratic principles. The other democratic candidates appear more republican to me, certainly Hillary is not too far from Bush.

I love those that try to reduce the importance of the Iowa Caucus. First they say it is such a small sampling. However, have you ever looked at the actual number of people questioned in a poll? Polls talk to samplings as low as 500 people. In Iowa, even the Republican Caucus saw almost 100,000 for their ’straw poll’. The Democrats fielded over 225,000 people, who had to face their neighbors face to face, discuss the candidates and their issues, and spend up to two hours deciding. That’s a much bigger commitment than watching TV ads and going to a voting booth for a total time commitment of maybe 30 minutes, including travel. Personally, I think the Democratic Caucus has it right.
I thought this RCP website was a legitimate neutral website. I should have been tipped off by the title. Every time conservative media comes up with a slogan or name, it tries to come up with something that sounds ‘neutral’ or ‘ethical’, when the substance is always clearly to the contrary. Separation of Church and State was a hallmark of the framers whether it was stated clearly or not in the early documents. All rulings on constitutional law have upheld that separation. And with good reason. Or why are we trying to prevent a Sunni state in Iraq. Wake up, if it isn’t good in Iraq, why would it be good here, jeez.

I have tried twice today to end emails coming from this site. I can’t even stand to think there are folks as stupid as “Liz” in this country that do nothing, read nothing, but sit on their couch with the channel changer thinking they know something. How truly pitiful. I can’t stand the ignorance. It’s just folks like this that don’t get to see what happens to the unwanted children in this country, not to mention health care for them, which is truly the most minute problem they could ever care about.
Personally think there are only two types of folks that could be talking like “Liz”, either those with an educaiton that are priviledged and fleecing the middle class, or those that have had no education and can’t read research to see what is truly behind what is going on.

While it is teaming with misguided, self-proclaimed neo-Cons that think theirs is the the virtuous cause, I’m not leaving and would like to hear the lucid side of sanity once in awhile. Actually I have some pity for these souls because they have been recruited and used by the right and need to hear that until they realize it. The mouthpieces of the far Right actually tell these people to not listen to any arguments against their diatribes for fear that they will lose their allegiance, which is what they depend on for ratings and influence. The O’Rielly’s and Limbaugh’s have made millions on these people and they’re not about to stop. So, in most cases, our appeals to their supporters’ consciences may be the only other side they may ever hear. The far Right has demonized all neutral news organizations as ‘liberal’ for the same reason. So don’t quit yet. Keep trying, it’s working. The numbers of duped believers has dropped dramatically in the last three years and is diminishing. America has gone from 45% of this type of support to less than 23%. People are waking up and challenging the lies and distortions that have kept them under this haze. There will always be some people that don’t have the virtue to ever admit their mistakes, but we can help minimize that. And in regards to torture, if that’s what we have to do to protect ourselves from another terrorist attack, I say threaten the terrorists within an inch of their lives until they talk! By a vast majority, people who have made a fortune by their own hard work, are compassionate Democrats, Libertarians, even old Republicans, but NOT the new Republicans. Myself, I don’t even consider myself a Democrat. I’m a Rockefeller Republican, whose party has been hijacked by a bunch of thieves, liars, and warhawks that, through a careful, calculated, misinformation stream over many years, has been able to build a coalition of the rich and greedy with the misinformed, angry, uneducated masses, that have accepted they are the victims of the same people that have been trying to help them.
Well, you can keep calling me names, spreading the lies you’ve been fed, calling me a Commie, hypocrite, tree-hugger, towel-head, and all the other nice terms those right wingers love to throw around, but I’m still going to fight for you. Because you are my brother, sister, family, etc. And it really is not all your fault you have been deceived. So I hope someday you will understand. The good news is that your numbers are decreasing everyday. My work has been growing fruits. In 2004 about 45% of the population believed as you still do. That number is now down to a hardcore 23%. Almost half of the original people have come to realize they were played and have come around to the truth. I see it every day at work, church, community. So many have said, ‘I should never have listened to Bush, that will never happen again’. It really has been uplifting. Because about 3 years ago I was in mourning for my country. But I was patient and believed good would eventually prevail, and it’s getting better each day.
I know that the number will never drop to 23%, because some people will always believe what they WANT to believe and never be convinced of the truth. Liz and Steph are you two going to be those sad souls? If so, then you will never prosper to the level you think you deserve, and you will always be angry at whoever is closest to be your target. And if that’s what you need, then I will be that target also, because no matter what you say, you are still my sisters.
