Condi Rice Confers With Carter & Clinton On Mideast Peace Parley

Condi%20rice%20smirk

Secretary Of State Condolezza Rice has conferred with Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton on Mideast Talks. Getting advice from Jimmy Carter on Israel is akin to asking Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for solutions to the Mideast conflicts. Rice has gone off the deep end with this brainstorm.

More here from The JP:

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has sought the advice of former US presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton ahead of a planned Middle East peace parley scheduled to take place in Annapolis, Maryland, in November or December.

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Saturday that Rice met with Carter this week. The two reportedly discussed the peace talks Carter brokered between Israel and Egypt in the late 1970s. The White House called the meeting with Carter positive and “to the point.”

Rice has also spoken with Clinton, who led the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians in the 1990s. “[Secretary of State] Rice is trying to learn from others what can be done and how their experience can be adapted to today’s situation,” McCormack said, adding that Rice placed great emphasis on “learning from the past.”

The State Department also reported that Rice has recently conferred with former UN Middle East envoy Dennis Ross, as well as her predecessors James Baker, Henry Kissinger, and Madeline Albright.

Rice has stated that she intends to devote the rest of the 14 months remaining in her term to establishing an independent Palestinian state while ensuring Israel’s security.

Nothing good will result from these talks if Rice seriously listens to and takes advice from these clowns.

Yep Carter only pulled off a peace treaty at Camp David between Egypt and Israel who had been fighting each other for 30 years, and Clinton nearly pulled off one between Israel and the Palestinians. What have Bush and Rice achieved in improving the security of Israel. For the first time since its inception in 1948 there are questions about the long term survival of Israel because of their policies over the past seven years. I’m afraid this comment is more bluster than substance.

You say two failed presidents? What planet and reality are you living. Jimmy Carter may not have been the best President, but he did get a peace treaty between Anwar Sadat and Menahem Begin. President Clinton almost got one with Arafat and Isreal, but ran out of time in office. Also Clinton presided over the largest expansion of the economy in US history, so I do not see how he is a failed President. Even Alan Greenspan (The Conservative Guru or Oracle of Economics) gives him higher marks then the clowns currently in White House.
So your argument JUST DOES NOT HOLD WATER. Please try to read the REAL history rather than fake or the Orwellian revision. I will give KUDOS to Rice for at least trying.

Sorry Steve Carter is a phony.
    Real history:

    http://www.nationalreview.com/flashback/flashback-nordlinger121002.asp
President Carter’s crowning achievement was the Camp David Accords which returned the Sinai to Egypt in exchange for the end of a state of war between Israel and Egypt. While the accords ended a shooting war between the two countries, it is worth noting that the agreement was not even negotiated by the Americans – most of the diplomacy having been done by the King of Morocco and the Ceausescu regime in Rumania. Washington DC was simply the money machine to fund the deal.

  • Perhaps the problem isn’t with the unreal concept of realism or past semi failures. Maybe the problem is easier to solve than it seems. After all, if Jordan and Egypt can recog Israel, exchange ambassadors and cut peace deals then what is magical about the other 20 members of the Arab League that they cannot?
Palestinian demands for a right of return need a reminder that none of the nearly 8 million refugees of Deutschlands failed ‘Drang Nach Osten’ haven’t protested much, killed much or blow up much for the right of return to Danzig.

    Jimmy Carter from Grolier:
    http://ap.grolier.com/article?assetid=0053560-0&templatename=/article/articl
    Foreign Policies

Public confidence in Carter began to wane during his second year in office, but he was able to secure ratification of treaties to transfer control of the Panama Canal to Panama. The revolution that toppled the shah of Iran (see Muhammad Reza Shah Pahlavi) early in 1979 surprised the U.S. government and sent Carter’s popularity downward. Carter’s personal diplomacy led to the signing of a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt on Mar. 26, 1979, and he signed the second Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (SALT II) with the USSR on June 18, 1979. SALT II, however, aroused a storm of controversy and was never ratified by the U.S. Senate.

Foreign policy in 1980 was dominated by Carter’s efforts to secure the release of the U.S. citizens taken hostage by Iranian militants on Nov. 4, 1979 (see Iranian hostage crisis), and by the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan the following month. Carter responded to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan with a limited trade embargo and a U.S. boycott of the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. The failure (Apr. 24, 1980) of a mission to rescue the hostages in Iran intensified worries that U.S. military efficacy had been eroded. The mission led to the resignation of Cyrus Vance, who was succeeded as secretary of state by Edmund Muskie.
    Domestic Setbacks

Although Carter’s prestige suffered from allegations of impropriety in the past financial dealings of his friend and budget director Bert Lance and in his brother Billy’s relations with Libya, the main source of difficulty for the Carter administration was the economy. Unemployment decreased during the first half of Carter’s term, but inflation rose sharply and was a serious political liability during his second two years. Inflation was reined in somewhat in mid-1980, but at the cost of recession and rising unemployment. The Carter administration created new departments of education and energy. Its energy policy was criticized, however, especially after severe gasoline shortages developed in 1979.

Carter faced serious opposition within his own party, especially when, during his third year, he began to stress military preparedness at the expense of social programs. Sen. Edward Kennedy, starting as the front-runner, challenged Carter for the 1980 Democratic presidential nomination. Democratic voters, however, gave Carter a series of primary-election victories, and the party renominated him. The Republican nominee, Ronald Reagan, successfully built inflation and the fear of U.S. military weakness into the major campaign issues, and he easily defeated Carter in the Nov. 4, 1980, presidential election. In the last month of Carter’s administration negotiations with Iran, through Algerian intermediaries, finally produced freedom for the hostages in Tehran. They were released on Jan. 20, 1981, as Reagan was inaugurated.

His weird history and event rewriting map stealing book Israel: Peace, not Apartheid buys some legetimacy with an admittedly corrupt region (that turned corruption into an art form), inviting the HAMAS totally throws Gaza Command into an uproar – telling them – look, we’ll get Palestine a state and ya’ll can sit it out in your little rats nest of a sharia law loving preachers paradise or tell your new best buds in Tehran you’re hooking up with not only the Little SAtan but the Great Satan as well.
