A leftist coalition is on the prowl to derail Rudy Giuliani’s bid for the Presidency. Remember the ‘Swift Boaters’ exposed the truth about John Kerry’s lies about his Vietnam service. This group is lying about Rudy. Big difference.
A coalition of 9/11 families and rescue workers plans to continue efforts to derail former Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s bid for President at a midtown fund-raiser today.
The group will to use the same strategy that helped undermine 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, whose service in Vietnam was challenged by the pro-Bush Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.
“We intend to Swift-boat Rudy the way they Swift-boated Kerry,” said Deputy Fire Chief Jim Riches, the group’s leader, whose firefighter son Jimmy was killed in the terror attack.
“[Giuliani] wasn’t a hero on 9/11. He was a failure on 9/11,” Riches said.
“On the body of my dead son, he’s running for President.”
Giuliani’s handling of the terrorist attack and its aftermath has become a flash point as he campaigns for the GOP presidential nomination. Critics say his reputation as “America’s Mayor” glosses over pre-9/11 policies that cost lives in the twin towers and on The Pile.
Riches’ group, 9/11 Parents and Families of Firefighters and WTC Victims, claims faulty radios and a lack of communication between firefighters and police officers prevented responders from escaping from the buildings when they were about to fall. It also charges that Giuliani’s statements about air quality at the site allowed workers there to get sick.
Giuliani’s campaign Web site trumpets his administration’s “record of support for New York’s Bravest,” such as budgeting for FDNY thermal cameras and more frequent medical checkups for firefighters.
“Mayor Giuliani provided much-needed leadership during our city’s greatest crisis, and not a day goes by where he doesn’t think about the terrorist attacks from six years ago,” said former Police Commissioner Howard Safir, head of First Responders for Rudy.

The only thing that qualifies him as a candidate, is that the media has been telling us he is one for quite a while now.
