I hear the outrage on television talk shows and on the internet that Elvira Arillano has been deported by a cold unfeeling American Government. I’m outraged too! Outraged that the 14th amendment has been bastardized by our courts in allowing anchor babies.
The 14th Amendment was added to the Constitution as part of the post-Civil War reforms aimed at addressing injustices to African Americans. It states that “all persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof are citizens of the United States” and was crafted so that state governments could never deny citizenship to blacks born in the United States. But at the time, the United States had no immigration policy, and thus the authors saw no need to state that explicitly. The phrase “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” was intended to exclude from automatic citizenship American-born persons whose allegiance to the United States was not complete. In the case of illegal aliens who are temporarily or unlawfully in the United States, because their native country has a claim of allegiance on the child, the completeness of the allegiance to the United States is impaired and logically precludes automatic citizenship. If common sense was used, not only would Ms. Arillano have been deported but her child also. Anchor babies are an unintended consequence of an outdated amendment to our constitution. The legislature should address the 14th amendment and close this loophole. It is not the American government that chose to break up this family, it is Ms. Arillano who cares so little for her child that she is willing to use him as a political football and leave him here. The outrage doesn’t stop there. Ms. Arillano is the hispanic version of Cindy Sheehan. How best can I use the fruit of my loins to further my political agenda? Well the answer is simple, Ms. Arillano already has plans to send her son out on a whirlwind tour in the U.S. to promote migrant rights. She has proven that she is an unfit mother with her abandonment of him and furthers the case to lose all of her parental rights by wanting to send her son out to do her dirty work for her.

Amen Shari. Not only is this a case for bringing the 14th amendment up to date, but also it is my understanding the woman had a "fake Social Security Card"??? Should that not be a criminal charge? I also read that she was working cleaning aircraft at a Chicago airport! Is that not a security breach of the HUGE kind? The whole system for bringing in "huddled masses" is broke and legislaters need to fix it. Since the inception of this country, many "legal citizens" have fought and died to preserve our freedoms and way of life. I don’t want illegals acting as though just because they can "sneak in illegally" they have the right to be here! It makes my blood boil to hear people say they should be given free healthcare and Social Security benefits when they don’t pay taxes because they are illegal! And I think the greedy citizens that give work to illegals "under the table" should be jailed. They are breaking laws too and adding to our tax burden! Well, I guess my blood is circulating good now!
Hoosier Army Mom, you hit the nail on the head with your arguments. What part of illegal and breaking the law is it that our government doesn’t seem to understand? Michael Vick, who’s crimes are abhorrent, is going to end up in jail for a minimum of 1 year for dog fighting allegations. This woman breaches homeland security and freely admits that she broke the law in order to do so and our government sits on it’s hands and wonders what to do, and only for reasons of political correctness and corporate greed. I’d gladly pay more for my head of lettuce at the store to have a legal citizen or legal immigrant be given the opportunity to make a living. Our welfare rolls are overflowing, so I don’t want to hear about needed labor. We have a huge mass of the population that should be doing this job and earning their way just like the rest of us!
It is about time this woman was deported.
The federal government has an OBLIGATION to enforce CURRENT immigration law. The government is also responsible for, as its number one function should be, for keep it’s (That’s legal American citizens and legal residents, like the three college kids in Newark, New Jersey that were execution-style murdered by an alleged illegal immigrant) legal residents and citizens safe from harm from foreign nationals. The wholesale neglect and derelict in duty that the federal government has shown in keeping American borders from being penetrated by an invasion of people from all over the face of the earth entering in through our border with Mexico is proof we need Mitt Romney to FORCE sanctuary cities to comply with current law.
Romney has some great ideas about immigration that should cause the least amount of problems for our great country, as we replace foreign national with American citizens and legal residents in the work force.
And Sanctuary City Rudy is NOT the way to go!
There is no need to have a constitutional amendment; the constitution nowhere requires that we put up with anchor babies. It was never a problem until recently. Here’s a great article talking about the history of the 14th Amendment and what it was supposed to mean until the Liberals got hold of it.
